Safe Routes to School’s mission is to empower youth to walk and bike more frequently to walkable and bike-able destinations in their community. We do this through providing the following free services to schools and youth-oriented advocacy organizations, civic groups, and non-profit organizations. You provide the venue, some volunteer support, and the youth, and we’ll supply the bikes, helmets, and leadership/instruction.

  • Providing hand-on bicycle and pedestrian skills safety instruction

  • Organizing bike rodeos

  • Leading guided bike rides and walks/hikes

  • Organizing walking school buses and biking buses

  • Organizing school-based biking and walking/hiking clubs

We also coordinate with city agencies to inform them of traffic safety concerns and needed bicyclist and pedestrian safety improvements, especially near locations where youth travel.
